LDS Geosynthetics Consultant Services

As of December 2017 Dave Suits began doing business as LDS Geosynthetics Consultant Services.
His focus includes; soils and geosynthetic training, including testing setup, test standard and specification development, and end user geosynthetic quality assurance program setup.

Dave has over forty years’ experience in geosynthics. He retired in 2005 from the NYSDOT where he oversaw the testing and acceptance of all geosynthetics, along with the testing of soils for foundation design for use on Department projects. During the last several years at NYSDOT he was chair of the AASHTO/NTPEP geotextile panel overseeing the testing of all geotextiles submitted to the program. He is past chair of the ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics. He is the past chair of subcommittee D35.03 on Permeability and Filtration. He is the newly named chair of the new D35 subcommittee, D35.06 on Material Specifications. He is the recipient of the ASTM International Award of Merit, the highest Society award, and the first recipient of the Committee D35 L. D. Suits Award. He has been active on ASTM International Committee D18 on Soil and Rock as co-editor of the Geotechnical Testing Journal. He is a recipient of the D18 A. Ivan Johnson Award for his service. He is also past chair of the ISO Committee TC221 on Geosynthetics.

He has also been active in the Transportation Research Board serving as chair of the Subsurface Drainage Committee, the Geosynthetics Committee, the Soil Mechanics Section, and the Design and Construction Group. He is an Emeritus member of the Geosynthetics Committee. He currently serves on the Transportation Research Record Advisory Board.

From 2005 to November 2017 he served as the Executive Director of the North American Geosynthetics Society. He served as an adjunct professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on two separate occasions.

Dave is the author of over thirty papers on geosynthetics and geotechnical engineering, as well as several text book chapters on geosynthetics. See the "My Work" section for examples.
